The thought of a log home conjures up images of our hearty pioneer ancestors who came to settle a beautiful but harsh wilderness. That describes the Danish immigrants who settled west of Green Bay, near Pulaski, Wisconsin in the 1860s to homestead a few acres of land. The first home Edward Johnson built for his family was a simple 15' x 20' rectangular house of hand hewn logs from the nearby pine forest.
As the family grew and prospered, Edward added an 18' x 24' story-and-a-half addition in the late 1880s. As
a further sign of affluence, the logs were sided over with native cedar clapboards. In 1991, the Cecils purchased
the abandoned house. The house was dismantled and each log was numbered, transported to Baileys Harbor and re-erected
log by log on their two-acre Lake Michigan lot, 75 feet from the shoreline. This 19th century primitive was transformed
to blend elegant Victorian antiques with luxurious contemporary amenities. The Log Home skillfully blends history, nostalgia and romance in elegantly luxurious surroundings to create a one-of-a-kind Door County vacation.
